Speech and Reticence
This poem I feel is a real testament to today's social landscape. Please let each word resonate in your brain so that you can truly conceive my message. It won my school's poetry competition. I believe that the reason for it winning is because of what the poem stands for.
Speech and Reticence
To express in silence is to truly know.
Communication engulfed in the epiphany of choice.
This reservoir of words curled up by the tongue.
By that in which we formulate syllables.
At times failing to escape the caverns of our mouths.
How do we select our speech?
How do we resort to reticence?
The manner of expression is convoluted.
By that in which we speak; it is of risk.
Never knowing the outcome of our words.
At times it is best to acquiesce in this truth.
But defiance is to articulate and show the world the nature of our roots.
How are we the strong while we must still be weak?
But is it wise to embrace our strength while restraint is an option?
Our steel-forged vernacular is one of religious eloquence.
We must speak to express the troubles of existence.
Lest, none shall understand.
Practice for the peace of mind; our outstretched thoughts which pierce reality.
We are beings of communication, and so we must detest; furthermore, we must express.
